Job Summary

The Vocational Educator delivers assessment, direct instruction, consultation, and collaborative problem-solving to develop students' vocational skills, career readiness, and post-secondary pathways. Services are provided in school, community, and workplace settings and may include employability skills, job-specific competencies, self-advocacy, and independent functioning. The role involves collaborating with families, classroom teams, workforce development specialists, teaching assistants, related service providers, and adult service agencies to promote access and meaningful participation in work-based learning, conducting vocational assessments, supporting transition planning, and aligning services with IEP goals across member districts. Responsibilities include direct instruction aligned to IEP goals, data collection and analysis to inform outcomes, co-teaching and collaborative instructional design, documentation and case management, maintaining confidentiality, attending IEP and program meetings, and traveling between school sites and community locations to deliver services in varied settings. The educator must ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment and stay current with research, trends, and best practices through ongoing professional development. Essential duties also cover assessment, evaluation, direct service and instruction, professional responsibilities, and travel between districts to support students’ transition and workplace readiness.

Required Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS I or LBS II endorsement
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in vocational, community-based, or transition settings
  • Expertise in transition planning, vocational instruction, and career development
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, families, and community agencies
  • Ability to travel between multiple school and community sites
  • Experience supporting students in real or simulated work environments (preferred)
  • Experience working with students ages 14–22 (preferred)
