Job Summary
Conduct daily animal facility operations including feeding, sterile cage maintenance, and sanitation of caging systems using barrier microisolator techniques. Track animal health, record mortalities, and maintain inventory and room maintenance logs. Disassemble dirty cages, load and unload cage wash machines and sterilizers, and disinfect animal-related supplies. Report facility and environmental issues to the supervisor and attend staff meetings. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment while adhering to SOPs and biosafety levels up to BSL-3. Work onsite in a new state-of-the-art vivarium in Cambridge, MA, requiring full 8-hour shifts with potential weekend or holiday coverage.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Previous experience with Animals
- Detail-oriented
- Multitasking skills
- Good communications skills in English, both oral and written
- No preexisting allergies to animals, hair, dander, or biproducts
- Ability to walk or stand for a full 8 hour shift
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to push or pull up to 100 lbs.
- Willingness to be fit tested and wear a N95 mask or alternatively a PAPR
- Ability to work in Biosafety levels up to BSL-3
- Ability to work with biological and chemical hazards
- Willingness to report to work in the event of a disaster, or weather-related event, if necessary
- Must be able to perform in this environment with exposure to these potential allergens for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to perform all duties while strictly adhering to established SOPs and in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines and regulations
- Computer skills
- Ability to perform day to day preventative cleaning and maintenance on all equipment including automation
- Must be willing to be fit tested and wear a N95 mask (by being clean shaven for proper and necessary fit) or alternatively, if necessary, a PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) as required
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience with Animals 0-1 year preferred
