Visual Arts Specialist Queens

Job Summary
Organize, lead, and promote interest in visual arts activities including painting, drawing, photography, and digital media. Establish clear objectives for lessons and projects, then adapt teaching methods and materials to meet student needs. Prepare classrooms and materials, explain safety procedures, and direct performance group rehearsals. Evaluate activities to ensure desired results and progress toward final student projects. Work 9-15 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and administration. Requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- A minimum of one year of visual arts work-related skill, knowledge, or experience
- A minimum of one year of teaching/coaching experience
- Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development
- Must be knowledgeable and skilled in various Visual Arts
- Must have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth
- Must be able to follow a curriculum
- Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs
- Must be able to lift or move objects/materials as needed
- Must be qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity
- Must be able to interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration
- Must obtain safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health
