Job Summary
Water & Sewer Superintendent in Oak Park, IL: Lead and manage the Water & Sewer Division, overseeing day-to-day operations and maintenance of municipal water pumping, storage, and distribution systems as well as sanitary and storm sewer collections. Direct a team of ~14 staff (including two Division Supervisors and 12 frontline personnel) in a unionized environment; ensure compliance with USEPA, IEPA, and local sampling/reporting requirements; oversee AMI programs and non-revenue water initiatives; administer the Division's budget in partnership with the Director of Public Works; serve as a key point of contact for residents, businesses, and stakeholders on service requests and water quality; provide after-hours emergency response. The role requires strong leadership, regulatory expertise, and a track record of managing complex public-works operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible supervisory or management experience in a public-sector water and/or sewer department.
- Possession of a Class “C” Illinois Water Operator's License.
- Demonstrated ability to manage effectively in a union environment.
