Job Summary
Conduct consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation for patients and staff, facilitating service delivery to linguistically diverse consumers. Provide explanations of colloquialisms and cultural competence issues as requested, while clarifying health center resources, office protocols, and limitations. Write letters and notes in the target language, schedule patient appointments with access representatives, and document pertinent data into the Electronic Medical Record within 24 hours. Review the taskbox and voicemail to follow up with providers and other healthcare professionals in a timely manner. Work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM across a 30-hour weekly schedule at the Daniel Driscoll-Neponset Health Center.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Medical Interpreter Certification
- minimum of 40 hours of interpreting training
- oral and written testing component
- Proven oral and written fluency in English
- Proven oral and written fluency in the target language
- Proven knowledge of medical terminology
- Proven customer service skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to collaborate with other health professionals
- Ability to appropriately prioritize workday demands
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office 365 including Word
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office 365 including Excel
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office 365 including Teams
- Working knowledge of Medical Interpreter Standards of Practice
- Working knowledge of medical interpreter ethics
- Working knowledge of code of conduct
- Working knowledge of issues of cultural competence
- Working knowledge of electronic health records
- Working knowledge of practice management systems
- Monday-Friday schedule
- 8:00 AM start time
- 2:00 PM end time
- 30 hours weekly
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- One year of experience as a Medical Interpreter
- Working knowledge of OCHIN
- Working knowledge of EPIC
