Vietnamese Interpreter, DOJ LSS

Job Summary
Provide interpretation, translation, and transcription services for DOJ-related materials (legal, medical, administrative, and diplomatic content) with strict confidentiality. Duties include interpreting within 3 hours of request, handling court/deposition settings, and working with translation of documents and multimedia; requires ILR 3 minimum, 4+ years of language interpretation experience, U.S. citizenship, and active Public Trust or higher clearance; remote work available across CONUS with National Capital Region access; proficiency in CAT tools such as SDL Trados Studio; strong knowledge of formal and colloquial language across English and the foreign language.
Required Qualifications
- Specialized training in the interpreting field and/or extensive experience in court or legal environments in the required language
- ability to provide interpretation within 3 hours of request
- minimum of four (4) years of language interpretation experience in the required mode
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- At least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication in various contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in both English and the foreign language related to the Government’s varied roles and missions
- Fluent in English and foreign language including regionalisms and colloquial slang
- Interpret accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient with Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, especially SDL Trados Studio
