Job Summary

Saskatoon-based cross-platform videojournalist needed to cover arts and culture for a French-speaking audience. The role requires shooting and editing across TV, radio, and digital platforms, developing original arts and culture stories with strong storytelling, and presenting material with sound/video. Responsibilities include ENG/EFP setup, lighting, camera operation, scripting, continuity and headlines, live reporting, interviews, and delivering completed stories for multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is fluent in English and French, capable of researching independently, and able to work under pressure with irregular hours and travel within the coverage area. Proficiency with Premiere and familiarity with CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic standards is preferred; knowledge of Saskatchewan and Franco-Saskatchewanian communities is an asset. A university degree plus several years of experience (or college diploma with more extensive experience) is expected, along with a valid driver’s license and ability to work on-site.

Required Qualifications

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a university degree plus three (3) years’ practical, relevant experience, or a college diploma and five (5) years’ practical, relevant experience
  • Excellent writing, storytelling and interviewing skills on both digital and broadcast media
  • Bilingualism (English/French) required
  • Knowledge of Saskatchewan, local and Franco-Saskatchewanian communities, as well as arts and community issues across the province
  • Thorough knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices (JSP) and Radio-Canada programming
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams but also be a strong self-starter
  • Critical mind
  • Proven ability to work in a high-stress, tight-deadline environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience working on multiple stories simultaneously
  • Understanding of the public broadcaster’s role and responsibilities
  • Familiarity with in-house production tools an asset (Dalet, MediaCentral, iNews, Scoop and Hindenburg)
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Premiere editing suite
  • Knowledge of shooting and editing techniques
  • Experience as a videojournalist is an asset
  • Valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurance company
  • Candidates will be tested (video submission link, journalism assessment, language tests)
  • Criminal record check and other background checks may be conducted as part of recruitment
