Video Motion Graphics Designer

Job Summary

Develop different styles of motion graphics to illustrate and report Financial Times stories, translating datasets into visuals while maintaining brand integrity. Conceive and create high-end, visually clean animation graphics for online and social media, utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud and 3D tools like Cinema 4D or Blender. Produce maps for video output using QGIS or similar systems and export projects meeting specifications for FT.com and YouTube. Collaborate with colleagues globally to broaden viewership and engagement, managing multiple projects with a commitment to accuracy and quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Clear understanding of financial graphics and ability to handle and translate datasets into graphics
  • Experience designing for online, social media and animation graphics for promotional purposes
  • Can confidently conceive and create high-end, visually clean and stimulating motion graphics
  • Extensive experience using Adobe Creative Cloud with a strong emphasis on After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Confident using at least one 3D animation application such as Cinema 4D or Blender
  • Knowledge of QGIS and/ or able to demonstrate skill in creating maps for video output using other applications eg GeoLayers, DEM Earth or similar systems
  • Ready to acquire new skills using broadcast style on-air graphics, in particular RT Software tOG AR
  • Solid knowledge of design principles
  • Can demonstrate expertise in layout and typography
  • Able to export and deliver projects with required specifications for FT.com, YouTube and other online destinations
  • Able to think creatively
  • A team player able to collaborate with colleagues across the world
  • Can demonstrate a clear commitment to accuracy and quality
  • Able to manage multiple projects, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, championing digital and social media platforms to team colleagues
  • Aware of new design trends and approaches to storytelling
  • Have a portfolio of production work available to view
  • FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite a minimum of three days per week

Desired Qualifications

  • Storyboarding and illustrating skills would be desirable
