Job Summary
Victim Advocate in City of New York Family Court Division supports victims through juvenile delinquency proceedings, coordinating services, informing victims and witnesses about the process, securing witness cooperation, arranging transportation, coordinating interpreters, and developing resources to navigate the court system. Responsibilities include interviewing victims and witnesses, communicating with attorneys, arranging court appointments, coordinating for services (Office of Victims Services), assisting with transportation and interpreters, and maintaining electronic files. The role requires travel across New York City and possibly other jurisdictions, and involvement with community resources, with proficiency in MS Office and strong interpersonal, organizational, and investigative abilities.
Required Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above
- High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to one or both of the above; however, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in the first item above.
