Job Summary

Vice President, Real Estate & Facilities at UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, based in Evanston, IL. Provide executive leadership for facilities, real estate, capital expansion, and health, safety, and environment (HSE) across ULRI and ULSE. Establish and execute long-term facilities and real estate strategies aligned with research priorities and growth; oversee modernization and optimization of laboratories, research facilities, and office environments. Lead governance and execution of major capital and construction projects, including highly technical and regulated laboratory facilities, over the next several years. Ensure disciplined capital planning, budgeting, cost control, risk management, and reporting. Set the organization’s vision for safety programs and regulatory compliance; sponsor audits and corrective action planning. Build positive relationships with suppliers, community organizations, and officials; mentor senior leaders; collaborate with Finance, Legal, Procurement, IT, Strategy, Communications, and HR. Expected to contribute to a culture of safety and environmental responsibility and to drive cross-functional initiatives aligned with organizational goals. Required and preferred qualifications include extensive leadership experience in facilities/real estate, capital delivery, and environmental health and safety, with a strong emphasis on governance, financial acumen, and strategic leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in facilities, real estate, capital project delivery, and/or environmental health and safety, preferably within research, laboratory, industrial, or other regulated environments
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in engineering, architecture, environmental science, safety, business, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading large capital programs and facilities portfolios with strong governance and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated experience setting and overseeing enterprise-level safety and environmental programs in complex operating environments

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in engineering, architecture, environmental science, safety, business, or related field preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in facilities, real estate, capital project delivery, and/or environmental health and safety
  • Experience leading large capital programs and facilities portfolios with strong governance and compliance requirements
  • Strong financial acumen including capital planning, budgeting, cost controls, and contract negotiation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix organization and develop senior leaders
  • Experience in regulated laboratory environments and integrating health, safety, and environmental programs into facility design and operations
