Job Summary
Lead all legal affairs as the company's chief advisor, providing strategic counsel on operations, governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, and litigation. Partner with executive leadership across operations, HR, safety, and finance to support business objectives while managing legal risk and protecting shareholder value. Oversee compliance across mining, environmental, labor, and corporate regulations, lead the legal department, and structure agreements for acquisitions and financing activities. Manage employment, environmental, and commercial litigation while advising on permitting, mineral rights, and enterprise risk initiatives. This role reports to the Chief Administrative Officer within the Legal department at Warrior Met Coal, a premier metallurgical coal producer located in Brookwood, Alabama.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active bar membership
- 15+ years of progressive legal experience
- Senior leadership experience in a corporate legal department or law firm
- Experience supporting a publicly traded company, including SEC, governance, and securities law matters
- Expertise in regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, labor and employment law, litigation management, and risk management
- Strong business judgment and ability to translate legal issues into practical solutions
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as a General Counsel, Chief Legal Officer, Deputy General Counsel, or similar executive legal leader
- Background in mining, energy, natural resources, manufacturing, or other industrial sectors
- Experience with MSHA, OSHA, EPA, NLRB, EEOC, and related agencies
- Knowledge of mining permitting, environmental compliance, and mineral rights
- Experience supporting acquisitions, strategic transactions, or major capital projects
