Job Summary
Vice President of Finance and Accounting oversees all accounting and finance operations for a $29MM budget with $18MM in reserves, leading month-end close, payroll/benefits, audits, and financial reporting. Partners with HR/IT and budget owners; manages the Associate Director, Accounting; drives process improvement, including automation and AI-enabled tools; implements budgeting platform rollout (Martus) and ensures strong internal controls and regulatory compliance. Hybrid role with three days per week at Washington, DC headquarters; responsibilities include financial leadership, external auditor liaison, vendor management, and cross-functional collaboration to support organizational decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least 4 years in a supervisory role
- Experience owning audit preparation and managing external auditor relationships
- Experience managing vendor relationships, including payroll platforms
- Proficiency in accounting systems and financial reporting tools (Sage Intacct, Ramp, and Excel; familiarity with Martus is a plus)
- Strong communication skills with ability to analyze complex financial data and present recommendations
