Job Summary
Vice President, Deputy General Counsel at Epiq leads the day-to-day operations of the Legal Department with primary focus on mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and overseeing litigation. The role drives governance frameworks, risk management, and scalable processes, and provides leadership across commercial contracting, technology transactions (including software licensing, SaaS, and cloud agreements), data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, AI governance, and intellectual property. The Deputy General Counsel partners with Finance and business leaders on insurance and enterprise risk, collaborates with Sales, Operations, Technology, Product, Compliance, Security, and HR, and directly manages a team of attorneys and legal professionals. Requires a JD and admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, 12+ years of progressive legal experience including substantial in-house leadership, and a proven track record in corporate transactions, deal execution, and managing cross-functional legal risk. The role emphasizes executive collaboration, practical business-minded legal guidance, and building a high-performing, scalable legal function across a global organization.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 12+ years of progressive legal experience, including significant in-house leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience leading legal operations or serving as a senior operational leader within a Legal Department
- Strong experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate transactions, and deal execution
- Significant experience overseeing litigation, disputes, and outside counsel strategy
- Experience managing cross-functional legal risks across a global organization
- Familiarity with commercial contracting, technology transactions, data governance, and privacy frameworks
- Experience managing and developing legal teams and legal operations personnel
- Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior business leaders
- Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives and practical business solutions
