Vice President, Data Governance Officer

Job Summary

Develop and lead a comprehensive data governance framework for clinical genomics and oncology, establishing policies aligned with HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, FDA, GxP, and GDPR. Oversee protection and access controls for PHI and genomic data while defining standards for HGVS, ClinVar, LOINC, SNOMED, HL7, and FHIR to ensure accuracy across LIS, EHRs, and AI platforms. Direct a team of governance professionals and data stewards, partnering with clinicians, lab directors, IT, and compliance teams to embed robust data management practices. Manage budgets for governance programs and influence technology investments, delivering accurate data for clinical decision-making and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Information Management, or Information Technology
  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or healthcare data compliance
  • Minimum of three in office days per week at an assigned location, either Burlington or Durham
  • Full-time, exempt (salaried) position
  • First Shift schedule
  • Standard business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST
  • Flexibility in work hours, including earlier, later, or additional hours
  • Reasonable notice provided when possible
  • Deep knowledge of genomics, oncology data management, and laboratory operations
  • Strong understanding of healthcare and genomic data standards (HGVS, ClinVar, LOINC, SNOMED, HL7, FHIR)
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and governance tools (HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, FDA, GxP, GDPR)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
  • Visionary leadership with the ability to execute governance strategies
  • Effective risk management and ethical decision-making
  • Executive presence with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences
  • Business acumen aligning data governance with Labcorp's mission
  • Inclusive leadership with cross-cultural team management
  • Ability to drive large-scale digital transformation initiatives
  • Up to 25% travel to corporate locations (national and international)
  • Regularly works with a computer for approximately 6-8 hours a day
  • Must be able to read and understand complex directions in a professional corporate environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA), or GxP-related certifications
  • Experience with AI-driven precision medicine initiatives, clinical trial data management, or cloud-based genomics platforms (AWS HealthLake, Google Cloud Genomics, Azure for Healthcare)
  • Background in next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular pathology, or precision oncology research
