Job Summary

Lead CRE appraisal review within AED for BNY’s nationwide CRE portfolio, overseeing the day-to-day appraisal review pipeline, reviewing third-party appraisals across asset types (multifamily, affordable housing, office, retail, industrial, mixed-use), and preparing appraisal review reports and internal scorecards for senior management. Ensure compliance with USPAP, FIRREA, interagency guidance, and internal policies; coordinate with external appraisers, relationship managers, and other stakeholders; manage vendor panels and administrative workflows including invoicing; conduct market research to strengthen conclusions; prepare bi-weekly pipeline updates for SVP and head of Environmental & Construction Risk; drive process improvements and SOM enhancements; support AI-related initiatives and broader CRE portfolio management and monitoring.

Required Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of CRE appraisal and appraisal review experience
  • New York State General Appraiser Certification License or Pennsylvania State General Appraiser Certification License
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Strong understanding of USPAP, FIRREA, and interagency appraisal and evaluation guidance
  • Experience reviewing appraisals for multiple CRE asset types and markets
  • Ability to prepare clear and well-organized written appraisal reviews, scorecards, and presentations
  • Experience managing or coordinating appraisal workflows (orders, status, escalations)
  • Vendor management experience (onboarding, invoices, relationships)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across matrixed teams
  • Ability to operate in a deadline-driven environment
  • Experience reviewing appraisals for affordable housing/LIHTC properties (preferred)
  • Exposure to Environmental Site Assessment reports (Phase I/II) (plus)
  • Experience with infrastructure and project finance assets (renewables) (plus)
  • Proficiency with valuation tools (Argus, Rockport VAL, CoStar) and MS Office
  • Ability to identify process improvements and escalate issues as needed
  • Knowledge of market research support and pipeline reporting for CRE monitoring
