Job Summary
Lead the scientific direction for a $100M portfolio of autism and neurodevelopmental research grants, overseeing 3–5 Senior Scientific Officers and managing the full grant-making cycle from RFA development to funding recommendations. Direct scientific review panels, evaluate investigator progress, and collaborate with the Executive Vice President to shape strategic priorities and new Request for Applications. Organize workshops and advisory councils to refine scientific goals, advance inclusive excellence, and ensure synergy across multi-disciplinary fields including genomics, circuit neuroscience, and human subjects research. Maintain a future focus on emerging technologies while contributing to open science initiatives and data-sharing strategies. This full-time role in New York City requires travel to national and international conferences.
Required Qualifications
- A Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a neuroscience-related field
- 10+ years of work experience post-training
- 5+ years of strong operational management
- proven track record of leading, developing and motivating high-performing teams who are experts in their field
- Strong scientific background
- broad knowledge of neuroscience
- Foundation in computational approaches to neuroscience, biology, or a related quantitative discipline
- Deep understanding of academic neuroscience research
- strong knowledge across human and animal model systems
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, neuroscientists, geneticists, and experimental researchers to address scientific questions
- Experience with data-sharing and open science initiatives
- Experience working with neuroscientists resulting in strong connections across the field
- Experience directing an independent research group
- Ability to think broadly and critically about scientific problems and experimental approaches
- Integrity and strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
- Resilience in making tough decisions
- Ability to travel to attend scientific meetings domestically and internationally
- E-Verify participation
