Job Summary
Lead VFX production on live-service titles by collaborating with art directors to establish style and quality standards, then directing the creation of effects, simulations, textures, and materials. Manage internal and external team schedules, mentor staff, and document workflows while partnering with engineers to build and improve the VFX pipeline. Investigate technical issues in DCC tools and game engines, optimizing assets to balance visual fidelity with performance constraints. Apply deep expertise in timing, motion, and silhouette to drive quality improvements across the team.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of practical experience in VFX production for game development, or equivalent skills and experience
- Experience presenting VFX expression policies and production direction, and proactively leading a team's production
- Experience driving quality improvement across the whole team through instructing, reviewing, and providing feedback to members
- Deep understanding of timing, motion, silhouette, weight, and volume
- Proficiency in asset production using industry-standard DCC tools (Maya, Houdini, Photoshop, etc.)
- Practical experience with real-time VFX using Unreal Engine, Unity, or a proprietary game engine
- Solid understanding of performance budgets and technical constraints for optimized content production
- High level of cross-departmental collaboration skills, and the ability to proactively drive production while grasping the team's situation
Desired Qualifications
- Experience profiling and optimizing assets with consideration for memory and performance
- Broad interest in real-time rendering technology and asset production tools in general
- Experience developing and introducing VFX production tools and automation tools
- Experience with procedural content production
- Experience establishing VFX quality standards and regulations
