Veterinary Technology Internship (Spring 2027)

Job Summary
Assist veterinary staff with medical and surgical procedures, patient care, and anesthetic monitoring while preparing and processing laboratory samples. Manage hospitalized and quarantine patients, maintain patient records, and ensure supply and equipment upkeep. Gain hands-on experience in clinical medicine, surgery, husbandry, quarantine protocols, laboratory techniques, and pathology. Complete a minimum of 32 hours per week for 6 to 12 weeks, adhering to safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and a drug-free workplace policy. Provide proof of negative TB screening and successfully complete a criminal history background check prior to placement.
Required Qualifications
- Second Year College Student or recent graduate (2 years or less)
- Veterinary technology student currently enrolled in an accredited program
- Currently licensed/registered and practicing veterinary technician
- Experience working or interning in a veterinary practice directly with animals
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
- Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required
- Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement
- Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium's drug-free workplace policy
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check
- Ability to provide their own housing and transportation
- Minimum of 32 hours/week for 6 to 12 weeks
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of exotic animals and their medicine strongly encouraged
