Job Summary
Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care under the mentorship of a credentialed veterinary technician. Practice skills required by your school's proficiency checklist while engaging in real-time learning within an open-concept emergency environment. You must be currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited program, able to start within six months, and possess current rabies vaccination or titer. The role requires standing for prolonged hours, lifting up to 25 kg, and working in a fast-paced, noisy setting with strong odors. This unpaid externship offers flexibility in duration and location selection, providing a foundation for future employment at VEG.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation
- Enrolled in a course that requires externship hours or skills
- Able to start the program within six months of application
- Current rabies vaccination or titer
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg on own
- Ability to support up to 40 kg with assistance
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with people from all backgrounds and different personality types
