Job Summary
Externship program to gain hands-on experience in veterinary emergency medicine alongside credentialed emergency technicians. You’ll shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, inpatient care, and more, under real-time mentoring. The program emphasizes practical skill-building aligned with your school’s proficiency checklist and offers flexibility in length and hospital location. This unpaid externship is for students currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited program (or seeking accreditation) and is designed to help you explore a potential ER career while developing clinical competencies in a fast-paced team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation
- Enrolled in a course that requires externship hours or skills
- Able to start the program within six months of application
- Current rabies vaccination or titer required
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor as well as ability to lift up to 25 kg on own and able to support up to 40 kg with assistance
- Must be willing to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors
