Job Summary
Obtain complete patient histories and maintain accurate treatment records while assisting veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures. Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures, then monitor patients throughout anesthesia and surgery. Perform venipuncture, collect diagnostic samples, and place IV catheters to support fluid therapy. Administer medications as directed and assist with laboratory and diagnostic testing, including taking digital and dental radiographs. Provide attentive post-operative monitoring and recovery care for hospitalized patients, small animals, large animals, and exotic species. Communicate clearly with clients about treatments and educate them on veterinary recommendations in a professional manner. Participate in rotating weekend on-call coverage and one holiday per year to support emergency cases within the 24-hour on-call structure.
Required Qualifications
- An active Registered Veterinary Technician credential
- Strong veterinary nursing and patient-care skills
- Experience with or an interest in mixed animal medicine
- Confidence with venipuncture and IV catheter placement
- Experience with surgical preparation, anesthesia monitoring, and patient recovery
- Knowledge of medication dispensing and administration
- Strong client education and communication skills
- The ability to explain veterinary recommendations clearly and professionally
- The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team
- Strong relationship-building skills with clients and coworkers
- Patience, kindness, compassion, and understanding, especially during challenging situations
- The confidence to take ownership of tasks and responsibilities
- A commitment to providing high-quality care to every patient
- Flexibility to work with a wide variety of species and medical cases
- Availability to participate in rotating weekend on-call coverage and one holiday per year
