Job Summary
Perform radiographs, collect blood and fecal samples, and conduct routine animal care procedures like dog dentals and physical exams. Monitor animal health, administer medications, and assist with surgical prep, anesthesia, and euthanasia while adhering to SOPs, protocols, and regulatory guidelines. Support the veterinarian with restraint techniques, study procedures, and QA audit requirements, ensuring compliance with IACUC and GxP principles. Manage time and resources effectively while maintaining client confidentiality and building positive relationships with veterinary staff. Work Monday through Friday with some weekend coverage required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Life Sciences field (e.g., Biology, Wildlife, Pre-veterinary, Zoology, Genetics, Environmental Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline)
- Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and 6 months or more of hands-on experience in Life Sciences (such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, or animal science) that provides the knowledge and skills required for the role
- Monday-Friday 6:30 am-3:15 pm CST some weekends required
- Commitment to animal welfare, safety, and ethical care standards
- Reliable adherence to protocols, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed
- Exceptional customer service
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment
- Comfortable working under minimal supervision
- Willingness to learn and adapt, including new equipment, procedures, or compliance requirements
Desired Qualifications
- 6 months or more experience in an animal related field
- CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician
- 6 months or more experience in a vivarium setting with familiarity in animal welfare standards (IACUC, AAALAC, or similar guidelines)
