Job Summary
Assist veterinarians in all aspects of medical services including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, and client education. Independently evaluate animals to determine adoptability while performing safe and humane animal handling. Collaborate with team members to solve problems, implement positive changes, and ensure high levels of patient care. Proficient in anesthesiology, vaccine administration, microchip implantation, fluid therapy, and medication administration. Manage phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, and pharmacology tasks. Utilize Microsoft Office suite and Chameleon software for shelter animal management. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma OR GED
- Completion of a veterinary technician program OR 2 years of experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic
- CVT not required
- Education may substitute for experience
- Must be able to assist veterinarians in all aspects of AHS' medical services including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, client education, clinic asepsis, fluid therapy and the administration of prescribed medications
- Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology and perform safe and humane animal handling
- Must be proficient in anesthesiology, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer
- Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software for use with animals in shelter
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
