Job Summary
Provide veterinary technician support across clinical, laboratory, pharmacy, and necropsy duties; assist veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures; perform venipuncture, anesthesia monitoring, radiography and ultrasonography; serve as surgical/circulating technician; ensure hospital readiness and participate in emergency response; train medical behaviors with animal care staff; maintain records, inventory, and compliance; support post-mortem exams and zoo-wide operant conditioning initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Eligibility to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician in Texas within one year of employment.
- Graduate of an accredited veterinary technician program with minimally an Associate of Applied Science degree.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a working veterinary technician.
- At least three months volunteer or paid experience in a zoo, wildlife or exotic animal practice.
- Must maintain LVT license in good standing and required continuing education (CE).
- Must have a valid driver’s license to operate Zoo vehicles and reliable transportation.
- Employment is contingent upon a successful background check, drug screen, and TB test results.
- Rabies vaccine series within six months of employment; Rabies titers biennially; Dallas Zoo Management, Inc. will cover these expenses.
