Job Summary

Develop six in-depth veterinary case stories annually, transforming complex toxicology scenarios into accurate, human-centered narratives for veterinary professionals and pet parents. Guide interviews with treating veterinarians and internal experts, crafting clinical questions that uncover narrative depth and expert guidance. Translate medically complex information into accessible editorial content while capturing the value of specialized poison-control expertise. Conduct necessary research, incorporate feedback from subject matter experts during revisions, and participate in regular status meetings. Optionally advise on content distribution and media outreach strategies to maximize campaign impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience writing about veterinary medicine, animal health, pet health, or closely related clinical topics.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary professionals as an audience, including the information and level of detail most valuable to them.
  • Ability to understand and accurately communicate medically complex veterinary information.
  • Excellent editorial storytelling and long-form writing skills.
  • Experience interviewing veterinarians, clinicians, subject matter experts, or other technical professionals.
  • Ability to develop interview questions that uncover both clinical context and compelling narrative details.
  • Strong research, fact-checking, and synthesis skills.
  • Ability to balance professional veterinary terminology with accessibility for non-clinical readers.
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with veterinary experts and incorporating technical feedback.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to operate as an extension of the client's team.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience writing case studies, clinical stories, editorial features, or similar narrative content is strongly preferred.
  • Veterinary, pet health, pet nutrition, pet first aid, animal health, or related credentials are advantageous but not strictly required when supported by substantial relevant writing experience.
  • Relevant veterinary or pet-health bylines and portfolio samples are highly desirable.
  • A human-first approach to writing is strongly preferred. The client values the human expertise behind its content and does not want AI-generated writing to replace the writer's original reporting, judgment, or storytelling.
