Job Summary
Veterinary Assistant II at Oregon Humane working with the medical and operations leadership to support high standards of animal care. Responsibilities include assisting with patient exams, providing daily medical care, anesthesia, laboratory, pharmacy and radiology support, preparing patients for surgery, and maintaining a clean, organized hospital facility. The role also involves interaction with the public and shelter staff to share information, maintain records, and contribute to program goals. Expected duties cover prep/set up of surgical suites, pre-anesthesia administration, acting as circulator for procedures, documenting medical notes, handling infectious-disease safety, cleaning and stocking facilities, performing pre-adoption medical consultations as needed, administering medications, collecting samples for lab work, performing radiology, transporting patients for procedures, and supporting education/ outreach events; travel between campuses and flexibility to work non-traditional hours as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- 2-5 years related work experience providing direct care to animals in a veterinary medicine center or animal shelter environment
- Radiology Safety Certification within one year from the date of hire (and maintain cert throughout employment)
- Ability to communicate with a diverse population in a professional manner
- Knowledge and experience with a wide variety of dog and cat breeds
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
