Job Summary
Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure quality pet care, educates clients on pet health, and helps maintain a safe, efficient hospital environment. Responsibilities include performing procedures not requiring veterinarian/technician, preparing for procedures, keeping clients and pets comfortable, educating clients about preventive care and hospital services, obtaining patient histories and maintaining medical charts, ensuring safety and cleanliness of treatment areas, assisting with surgery as applicable, following NAVTA-guided skills, and mentoring paraprofessionals. Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and client service skills are essential, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced veterinary hospital.
Required Qualifications
- Certificate of completion from NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant program, or equivalent education/training/experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must be at least 18 years old for radiography duties
- One year related experience preferred (customer service)
