Job Summary

As an Animal Health Center Veterinary Technician at the San Antonio Zoo, you will be responsible for the preparation and assistance with routine and emergency animal procedures, including immobilizations, examinations, and collection of diagnostic samples. You will follow veterinarian directives for treatment plans, prescriptions, and testing of biological samples, maintain hospital cleanliness and equipment, and participate in educational tours and conservation programs. Responsibilities include anesthesia, patient monitoring, radiology, ultrasonography, endoscopy, surgery, dental work, sample collection and preparation (CBCs, hematology, urinalysis, fecal analysis, microbiology), pharmacy-related tasks, inventory management, medical record keeping, and collaboration with veterinarians and hospital staff. The role requires the ability to read and follow veterinary orders, communicate clearly in English, work safely around diverse and potentially dangerous animals, operate veterinary equipment, and support SOPs and guest education initiatives. Available shifts include full-time, with 7:00am–4:00pm hours, and the position requires flexibility to support year-round operations including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional after-hour assignments. Must have two years of relevant experience, licensure/credentials preferred (LVT/RVT/CVT), and be prepared to undergo background checks and drug screening. Required Qualifications

  • Two years of full-time veterinary clinical experience
  • Licensed (LVT, RVT, CVT) highly preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Texas driver’s license or obtain within 3 months of employment
  • Must complete pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen
  • Ability to read, understand and follow veterinary medical orders; communicate in English
  • Ability to work safely around delicate, wild animals and in clinical settings
  • Two years of full-time veterinary clinical experience
  • Combination of veterinary technician experience and associate or bachelor degree may be considered
