Job Summary
Conduct wellness and surgical procedures for shelter animals while coordinating patient flow with the Clinic Manager. Participate in Animal Care Rounds to review animal status and assist in euthanasia decisions. Provide medical direction and training to clinic staff and volunteers, and collaborate with adoption and behavior managers to ensure effective care. Manage controlled drug logs, input medical records, and adhere to clinic protocols and ethical standards. Available for post-surgical complications or emergencies by phone after hours.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Washington
- Certified as Fear Free Shelter Individual Veterinary Professional, or able to be certified within 12 months after start
- Shelter medicine experience preferred
- Current DEA license preferred
- Maintain knowledge of current methods and best practices in veterinary care
- Have working knowledge in the use of behavior-related medications
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- PetPoint knowledge preferred
- Be able to represent HPAC professionally at all times
- Must embrace the mission of Homeward Pet
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Valid driver's license
