Job Summary
Locum Veterinarian to provide preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of Pets. Responsibilities include obtaining client history, maintaining medical records, educating clients on preventative care and treatment plans, prescribing and administering preventive care, communicating diagnoses and plans to the veterinary team and clients, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Must be able to perform basic surgeries, maintain a safe and organized hospital environment, and demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Minimum qualifications include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) and licensure in good standing, plus DEA registration; candidate should be able to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required
- License in good standing with the applicable state veterinary board
- License with the Drug Enforcement Agency required
- Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including use of all standard medical instruments and equipment
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Organizational ability and attention to detail
- Compassionate commitment to Pet care and client advocacy
- Proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and veterinary practice management tools
- Flexibility to work more than 40 hours per week including weekends and evenings when needed
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to travel minimally if required for vendor visits or education
- Understanding and adherence to state guidelines regarding veterinary duties
- Experience with patient safety, restraint techniques, and medical record maintenance
