Job Summary
Perform comprehensive physical examinations and provide diagnostic, medical, surgical, and dental care for Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds, including C-sections, spays, and neuters. Interpret laboratory results and imaging studies to support treatment planning for puppies, breeding dogs, and guide dogs throughout their lifecycle. Develop and implement treatment plans for acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and surgical cases while administering vaccinations and preventatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage population health initiatives, monitor disease trends, and uphold biosecurity protocols. Communicate examination findings and recommendations clearly to clients, including Puppy Raisers and graduates, and provide telemedicine support for medical emergencies. Maintain accurate medical records and stay current on evidence-based practices to ensure high standards of care.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree) from an accredited veterinary school.
- Active veterinary license in New York State, or the ability to obtain licensure prior to employment.
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess situations, prioritize needs, and make sound decisions in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, mission-driven setting.
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to find a common purpose, build consensus, and foster collaboration across teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain veterinary concepts and recommendations to individuals with varying levels of medical knowledge.
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, integrity, and accountability.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to safely handle, restrain, and lift dogs weighing up to 75 pounds
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in small animal general practice, shelter medicine, population medicine, or reproductive medicine.
- Experience working with breeding, kennel, or working-dog populations
- Salesforce savvy
