Job Summary

Interview Veterans and eligible dependents to assess needs, advise on potential benefits, and provide referrals to outside agencies. Assist with preparing, filing, and following up on Federal, State, and County benefit applications while monitoring claims for compliance with applicable laws. Build professional relationships with local agencies and organizations serving Veterans, and coordinate the Veterans Affairs transportation program. Draft correspondence and respond to inquiries regarding Veterans-related matters while maintaining accurate paper and electronic records. This role requires irregular hours and use of the employee's personal vehicle for travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Business, Law, or a related field
  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Three years of job experience in a related field
  • Ability to obtain required certification/accreditation within a designated timeframe
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or the ability to learn
  • Strong command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic math
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and partner agencies
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures related to Veterans' services and community resources
  • Ability to use computers and office equipment to prepare reports, maintain records, and research information
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to assess client needs
  • Ability to manage high caseloads, multitask, and adapt to frequent interruptions
  • Ability to interpret and explain policies, regulations, and laws in clear, understandable terms
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Ability to remain tactful, patient, and emotionally stable when assisting individuals in distress
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings and provide guidance to clients and their families
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and maintain accurate paper and electronic records
  • Ability to use County resources responsibly and efficiently
  • Must meet minimum qualifications
  • Must be able to perform all essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must be available for irregular hours
  • Must be able to use the employee's personal vehicle for travel
