Job Summary
Part-time Veterans Peer Support Specialist provides non-clinical, wellness-focused, strengths-based support to veterans. Responsibilities include assisting clients in communicating recovery or wellness goals, providing education on wellness and recovery, offering information and referrals to community resources, sharing personal recovery experiences to convey hope, maintaining client records in compliance with standards, and advocating for veterans’ recovery needs in clinical staffing and meetings. Veterans with lived experience will support other veterans who are navigating daily life and veteran services. Must have a high-school diploma or equivalent, a qualifying veteran status, and obtain CPRS certification within six months. Valid Virginia driver’s license and ability to undergo background checks and probationary period are required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Veteran with honorable discharge who has spent a minimum of two years in personal recovery from trauma, a mental health diagnosis, and/or substance use condition
- Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) preferred. Required within six months of hire
- Strong computer and organizational skills
- Must have a valid Virginia driver's license and maintain a safe driving record
- Background Investigation Requirements: All applicants are subject to a background investigation
- Probationary Period: All persons must serve a new 6-month probationary period
