Job Summary
Veteran Peer Support Specialist II provides on-site peer counseling, battle buddy support, and resource referral to veterans and military families. Responsibilities include sharing experiences and strengths, accompanying participants to appointments and housing/voucher sessions, developing recovery plans with the treatment team, facilitating mutual-support groups, assisting with benefits and housing/navigation, and coordinating with the VPAN Squad Leader to remove barriers and support reintegration. The role requires on-site work daily, Mandated Reporter duties, and participation in VA-certified peer training and ongoing required trainings. Certification in Veteran peer support and related trainings are part of the qualifications.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience providing social services or similar leadership/volunteer/service experience
- Personal Military experience or experience in recovery from mental health/substance abuse issues or homelessness reintegration
- Current TB screening and Immunization Records
- Fingerprint clearance background check
- Current BLS Certification
- VA Peer Certification training within 90 days of hire
- 2-week VA Peer Certification training within 90 days of hire
- Ability to work on-site every day of active employment
