Job Summary

Required Qualifications

• •Direct verbal authorization from a veterinary technician or veterinarian for medication administration
• •Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs
• •Ability to handle materials weighing up to 20 lbs
• •Ability to handle dogs weighing up to 150 lbs
• •Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods
• •Ability to work in a bent position
• •Strength or agility for capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals
• •Knowledge and skills in controlling/handling individual animal temperament
• •Ability to gain animal confidence when restraining them for treatment
• •Ability to answer client questions appropriately in accordance with established hospital guidelines
• •Ability to accurately answer sub-professional client questions regarding hospital services, fees, and preventative care
• •Ability to monitor how long clients have been waiting and handle situations where there is an extended wait
• •Ability to use hands free radio to communicate between other departments
• •Ability to run in house blood or urine analysis
• •Ability to prepare ear cytology slides
• •Ability to prepare lab samples for analysis at reference lab
• •Ability to draw up and label vaccine doses (not injectable medications)
• •Ability to independently handle technician appointment such as nail trims, anal gland expressions, suture removals, and Bordatella administrations following training and Lead Veterinary Technician approval
• •Ability to clean, feed and walk all hospitalized patients
• •Ability to clean and record ins/outs on hospital sheets and in computer file
• •Ability to clean, wrap at autoclaving any used surgery packs
• •Ability to clean up and autoclave surgical packs and instruments
• •Ability to monitor patients during surgery
• •Ability to assist technicians in cleaning, feeding, walking, and providing general care to all hospital patients
• •Ability to assist technicians in admitting and preparing surgery and drop-off patients
• •Ability to assist in making sure all necessary packs and equipment are ready/clean for surgery
• •Ability to restock rooms and treatment area drawers/containers
• •Ability to run morning pre-anesthetic labwork
• •Ability to keep treatment area, exam rooms and surgery area neat, clean, and free of hair
• •Ability to make sure all areas are stocked with supplies
• •Ability to assist doctors in room appointments
• •Ability to display excellence in client service
• •Ability to participate in scheduled staff meetings for continuing education
