Job Summary
Provide daily leadership and support to nursing teams while overseeing staffing, scheduling, patient flow, and nursing operations. Mentor, coach, and develop nurses and supervisors; strengthen engagement, retention, and workplace culture. Respond to staffing concerns, clinical issues, and operational challenges; support orientation, education, and professional development. Collaborate with physicians, executives, and department leaders; monitor quality, safety, documentation, and patient-care standards. Develop and maintain nursing policies, procedures, and workflows; support regulatory readiness, surveys, and corrective-action plans. Participate in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and workforce planning. Help improve communication between shifts, departments, and leadership; support patients, families, and employees during difficult or unexpected situations. Ensure nursing services remain stable and available to the community.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse licensure or eligibility for Vermont licensure
- Progressive nursing experience
- Previous leadership experience as a nurse manager, supervisor, house supervisor, director, or comparable nursing leader
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience supporting staffing, scheduling, employee development, or nursing operations
- Knowledge of quality, patient safety, regulatory requirements, and nursing standards
- The ability to remain calm, visible, and supportive during challenging situations
- Experience within rural hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, clinics, long-term care organizations, or community healthcare settings
- Relevant education and certification based on the specific position
- A collaborative, practical, and relationship-focused leadership style
Desired Qualifications
- Some opportunities may require or prefer a bachelor's degree in nursing, a master's degree, specialty certification, or previous experience within a particular clinical department
