Ventilator Patient Specialist

Job Summary

Manage a set number of ALS and/or Pediatric ventilation patients within a defined territory, serving as the primary contact for patient, caregiver, and other entities involved in ventilation care. Conduct patient assessments, provide education, set up highly technical respiratory equipment, and monitor its ongoing function. Maintain documentation of all services and records in an organized, safe, and clean fashion while ensuring compliance with state licensure laws and Rotech policies. Available for on-call assignments during non-business hours and support orientation and training of other personnel as directed. Perform other duties required by state licensure law or the Manager, utilizing deductive problem-solving skills to interpret instructions and make appropriate recommendations for patient care changes. Review patient charts to discern compliance with policies and communicate effectively with physicians, location employees, and patients. Work independently and as part of a team, maintaining confidentiality and practicing discretion when handling sensitive information.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license in state of residence with a clean driving record (when applicable for the position)
  • Must be licensed in primary state of home office as required by state law and provide a copy of license to the location
  • Pediatric and/or ALS Ventilation experience is required
  • Proficient in the use of equipment download software (Care Orchestrator, Astral, etc.)
  • Deductive problem solving skills
  • Effectively communicate in English; both oral and written, with physicians, location employees and patients to ensure questions and concerns are processed in a timely manner
  • Interpret a variety of instructions in a variety of communication mediums
  • Knowledge of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) or Home Medical Equipment (HME)
  • Maintain confidentiality and practice discretion and caution when handling sensitive information
  • Make appropriate recommendations for changes to patient care as dictated by patient assessment
  • Multi-task along with attention to detail
  • Read and successfully interpret written directions and/or instructions in English
  • Review patient charts and discern compliance with Rotech's policies and procedures
  • Self-motivation, organized, time-management and deductive problem solving skills
  • Sense of urgency and responsiveness to physicians, location employees and patients
  • Work independently and as part of a team

  • Microsoft applications; Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Office equipment; fax machine, copier, printer, phone and computer and/or tablet
  • Lift and carry office equipment at times
  • Requires close vision to small print on computer and/or tablet and paperwork
  • Requires contact with patients and equipment with potential exposure to contagious pathogens
  • Requires occasional lifting and transporting of patient equipment
  • Requires sitting, walking, standing, talking and listening
  • Required to comply with Rotech Respiratory Protection & N95 Mask Fit Testing Policy
  • Medical Evaluation and Fit Testing Compliance in a timely manner
  • Annual Recertification
  • Keep face clean-shaven to ensure N95 Mask face-seal protection per OSHA guidelines
  • Local In Home Health Mon-Fri 8:30AM-5PM
  • On call 1 week per month
  • Can be a RRT or an RN

Desired Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited program/degree in respiratory care preferred; nursing (RN) may be acceptable depending upon state licensure laws
  • Credentials as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) is preferred but other medical credentials may be acceptable (e.g., RN) depending upon state licensure laws
  • Home respiratory care experience is preferred or equivalent hospital experience
