Job Summary

Greet customers entering the showroom or sales lot, assess their needs, and offer assistance or direction. Explain product performance, application, and benefits while describing optional equipment, then offer test drives after verifying identification. Assist clients in selecting vehicles by asking questions and listening carefully to their responses. Process paperwork in accordance with dealership policies, including writing complete sales orders and turning closed deals to the finance and insurance manager. Deliver vehicles to customers, ensuring they understand operating features, warranty, and paperwork, while introducing them to service personnel. Maintain a prospect development system and follow up on post-delivery items to ensure expectations are met.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws which govern retail automobile sales
  • Ability to know and understand equity and values, and be able to explain depreciation to the customer
  • Ability to regularly stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Ability to occasionally climb or balance
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Previous automotive dealership experience
  • Manufacturer Training

  • Exhibits high level of commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Ability to establish personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity, and devise a strategy to meet those goals
  • Ability to keep abreast of new products, features, accessories, etc., and their benefits to customers
  • Ability to ensure that the sales manager has an opportunity to meet each customer
  • Ability to maintain an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and contributes to customer satisfaction
  • Ability to maintain a prospect development system
  • Ability to review and analyze actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively
  • Ability to attend sales meetings
