Job Summary
Vehicle Control & Upfit Engineer II leads and coordinates the development of advanced vocational vehicle control software in a global Daimler Truck North America team. The role focuses on in-house software development for highly customized, reusable functions across international business units, with responsibilities including defining Interface Design & Concept Development for vocational customer requests, coordinating development DRs from local projects, migrating features from CEEA+ to CEEAce, interfacing with SW model owners and XMC components, and driving continuous improvement across processes, product, and collaboration. The position engages with Hardware-in-the-Loop and validation teams to finalize feature releases, and requires strong cross-functional communication, a background in electrical or software engineering, 2-4 years (or 4-6 years in lieu of degree), and experience in global development environments. The role is located in Portland, OR with a hybrid schedule (4 days in-office, 1 day remote) and does not offer visa sponsorship or relocation assistance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or software engineering from an accredited university/college
- 2-4 years experience, or 4-6 years in lieu of degree
- Experience with Software development tools, methods and processes
- Excellent communication skills to interact with customers, market councils, and other industry forums
- Experience with vehicle data bus, CAN communications, embedded controllers
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor others in root cause analysis and complex problem solving
- Experience working with Service, Manufacturing, Vocational and IT engineering organizations
- Nice-to-have: ISO26262 functional safety and cybersecurity knowledge
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
