Job Summary
Monitor operations to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract terms, and specifications for roadway, bridge, and utility projects. Coordinate inspection schedules with contractors and DOT representatives, review phasing and Maintenance of Traffic plans, and identify necessary changes to construction plans due to field conditions. Make field measurements of pay items, conduct materials testing, observe construction equipment, and maintain comprehensive project records including daily diaries and as-built plans. Advise contractors of violations and recommend corrective measures. Requires VDOT inspection and materials testing certifications, which are reimbursed upon obtaining.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- Civil construction inspection or related construction experience
- Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment
- Ability to read and interpret roadway and bridge plans and contract specifications
- Ability to drive assigned and/or personal vehicles within roadways and project sites to perform construction inspection activities
- Successful candidates will be authorized to obtain all VDOT inspection and materials testing certifications
