VASCULAR SONOGRAPHER

Job Summary
Conduct diagnostic vascular examinations using ultrasound technology, including arterial Doppler studies, venous duplex scans, and carotid assessments to evaluate blood flow, detect thrombosis, and identify plaque characteristics. Perform non-invasive studies on adults, geriatric, and pediatric patients while differentiating artifacts from anatomical structures and communicating preliminary findings to physicians. Assist with thrombin injections, intra-operative scanning, and equipment maintenance, and provide emergency care using basic support protocols. Review patient medical records, process electronic reporting data, and educate patients and families on procedures and symptoms.
Required Qualifications
- Two (2) years of vascular imaging experience
- Registered in vascular ultrasound (RVT or RVS)
- Basic Life Support/CPR
- Registered in vascular and echocardiography ultrasound (RVT or RVS and RCS or RDC)
- Meet continuing medical education requirements according to the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
- Attend local, regional, and national conferences to obtain up-to-date testing techniques
- Graduate of an ultrasonography program
- Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited ultrasonography training program
- Bachelor's degree in Ultrasonography, Radiology, Biological Sciences, or relevant health sciences field
- Ability to operate ultrasound equipment utilizing a variety of possibly techniques
- Ability to adjust equipment/machines settings to obtain optimal diagnostic results
- Ability to perform examinations, recognizing the significance of all structures that are visualized, differentiating artifacts from appropriate images, while recognizing the limitations of equipment and utilizing knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Ability to educate patients and families of safe and appropriate testing; thoroughly explaining procedures, answering questions, and calming concerns
- Ability to make knowledgeable clinical assessments and judgements
- Ability to use and apply clinical research findings to identify various intervention techniques or procedures that may need modification
- Ability to maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment
- Demonstrate analytical decision-making skills; ability to quickly assess and resolve technical and patient care problems
- Ability to work both independently and as a care team member
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of medical records
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to interact professionally and develop effective relationships
- Ability to comply with all HIPAA requirements
- Basic computer skills (ability to navigate the computer, internet, and keyboarding skills)
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required

- Act as a clinical resource to staff at their own facility and throughout the system
