Job Summary
The Vascular Lab Sonographer performs vascular ultrasound and Doppler examinations at a high technical level under limited supervision. Responsibilities include obtaining patient histories, identifying and recording anatomical, pathological and diagnostic images, correlating images to exam protocols, presenting examinations to physicians for interpretation, coordinating lab and clinic schedules, maintaining equipment and supplies, assisting with accreditation (IAC), ensuring patient privacy (HIPAA/OSHA), providing clear explanations to patients, using electronic charts for clinical history, optimizing equipment settings for quality images, differentiating normal vs. abnormal findings, documenting data, ensuring timely report turnaround, and participating in vascular lab QA/QI activities. Ongoing professional development through journals, CMEs, and conferences is expected, along with participation in equipment evaluation and staff orientation; current CPR certification is required.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate/diploma
- Satisfactory completion of a formal vascular technology training program (2-4 years) must be registry eligible for the current year
- Graduate from a diagnostic ultrasound training program (2-4 years) with one full year of full time clinical experience in a dedicated vascular lab and be registry eligible for the current year
- At least two years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences with two years experience in a dedicated vascular lab and be registry eligible for the current year
- Must be responsible, self-motivated, and capable of working with limited supervision under guidelines set by the supervisor
- License/ Certifications Must have appropriate credential in vascular testing with active status. If not credentialed, must become credentialed within first year of employment.
- Appropriate Credentials: RVT- Registered Vascular Technologist; RVS- Registered Vascular Specialist by CCI; RT (VS)- Registered Technologist Vascular Sonography by ARRT; BLS- Basic Life Support
