Job Summary
Implement athletic policies, state regulations, and league rules while supervising assistant coaches and middle school staff. Establish fundamental skills, techniques, and program philosophy through conferences, clinics, and staff meetings. Mentor student athletes on character traits, grades, and conduct while managing discipline, grievances, and due process procedures. Coordinate tournament logistics, event preparation, and facility maintenance with maintenance and school employees. Manage equipment inventory, budgeting, and storage while ensuring safety protocols and cleanliness standards. Represent the school positively to parents, media, boosters, and officials through preseason meetings and public relations efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport
- Ability to continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
- Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions
- Thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Jasper County Schools' Board of Education
- Knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations
- Understanding of the proper administrative line of command
- Awareness of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance
- Ability to establish the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff
- Ability to design conferences, clinics and staff meetings to insure staff awareness of overall program
- Ability to train and inform staff
- Ability to encourage professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local clinic policy
- Ability to delegate specific duties, supervise implementation and analyze staff effectiveness and evaluate all assistants
- Ability to maintain discipline, adjust grievances and work to increase morale and cooperation
- Ability to present a positive image of JCSD at all times
- Ability to assist the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events
- Ability to assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices
- Ability to coordinate program with maintenance and school employees
- Ability to provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility
- Ability to provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites
- Ability to advise the athletic director and recommend policy, method or procedural changes
- Ability to serve as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletes the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship
- Ability to give constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct
- Ability to provide assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant by presence at all practices games and while traveling
- Ability to provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant
- Ability to initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies
- Ability to complete paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submit to athletic office within 24 hours
- Ability to direct student managers, assistants and statisticians
- Ability to determine discipline, delineate procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contract parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible
- Ability to assist athletes in their college or advanced educational selection
- Ability to participate in the budgeting function with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season
- Ability to recommend equipment guidelines as to type, style, color or technical specifications
- Ability to operate within budget appropriations
- Accountability for all equipment
- Ability to collect the cost of any equipment lost or not returned
- Ability to arrange for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment
- Ability to submit annual inventory and current records concerning equipment
- Ability to properly mark and identify all equipment before issuing or storing
- Ability to monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices
- Ability to authorize who may enter, issue or requisition equipment
- Ability to permit the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times
- Ability to examine locker rooms before and after practices and games
- Ability to check on general cleanliness of the facility
- Ability to be responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment
- Ability to secure all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty
- Ability to instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use
- Ability to organize parents, coaches, players and guests for preseason meetings
- Ability to promote the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program
- Ability to promote the sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or in any other feasible manner
- Ability to be responsible for the quality, effectiveness and validity of any oral or written release to local media
- Ability to maintain good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans
- Ability to present information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments and results
