Job Summary
Valve Technician responsible for installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of railcar valve systems to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Requires 3–5 years of hands-on railcar valve experience and prior supervisory/lead technician experience. Must demonstrate strong knowledge of AAR and FRA requirements, ability to read blueprints/schematics/technical manuals, and lead or mentor junior technicians. Duties include rebuilding and inspecting valves (gage devices, bottom outlet, relief valves, pressure regulating valves), ensuring proper installation and function, troubleshooting system issues, verifying tools and testing equipment, reviewing inspection records and test results, supporting audits and corrective actions, and enforcing safety policies (lockout/tagout, PPE) while coordinating with production, quality, and engineering teams and maintaining accurate documentation.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- AAR certification(s) related to valve repair or inspection preferred
- Mechanical or technical training preferred
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience with railcar valve systems required
- Previous supervisory or lead technician experience required
- Strong knowledge of AAR and FRA requirements and ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals (required)
