Utility Worker II - Wastewater Collection (2 positions)

Job Summary
Perform manual tasks at a semi-skilled level to dig, shore-up, repair, and back-fill wastewater lines, including placing pipes in trenches and adjusting slopes for proper alignment. Train lower-level workers in maintenance and construction while assembling and disassembling barricades. Operate hand tools and heavy equipment with a high level of judgment to assess safety factors and make appropriate precautionary decisions. Maintain all necessary licenses, certifications, and clearances without interruption. Work the assigned schedule, which may include call-out service after hours, while complying with City timekeeping and attendance policies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- one-year related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Texas CDL Class B
- good driving record
- ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- ability to moderate to heavy lifting and carrying
- ability to kneel, crouching and bending
- ability to push, pulling and reaching
- ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
- all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements
- ability to work independently
- good judgment
- ability to assess situation and make appropriate determination on how to proceed
- knowledge of and the ability to utilize proper tools and equipment of the trade
- ability to decide what precautionary steps to take if a safety factor exists
