Utility Technician

Job Summary
Operate, sample, troubleshoot, perform minor repairs, and install equipment for all site utilities under the Wyandotte facility footprint. Manage Site Services support systems (firewater, outfalls, sanitary sewers, construction and groundwater systems), monitor and coordinate water shipments, generate shipping documents, and assist truck drivers. Perform monthly meter reads, escort DTE, and consolidate scrap metal. Interact with multiple departments across the Wyandotte site and support off-site properties in Wyandotte, Riverview, and Grosse Ile. Adhere to PPE and safety protocols, manage permits (safework, isolation, hot work, confined space), and coordinate excavations for underground pipe repairs. Be familiar with process controls (valves, flows, pressures, vacuum, pump operations) and be prepared to train for site crane operations to perform lifts as needed. Work on a schedule that may include on-call responses and outdoor exposure, with the ability to operate in both indoor and outdoor environments and handle up to 50 lbs. Create and support a safe, efficient, and compliant utility operations culture within BASF’s Performance Materials division; participate in continuous improvement initiatives and leverage basic computer tools and plant systems (e.g., SAP) to optimize site performance.
Required Qualifications
- Have a High School Diploma or GED
- At least one year of chemical industry and/or manufacturing experience (preferred)
- Familiar with pumps for moving liquid; heavy equipment beneficial
- Ability to obtain license to operate mobile equipment (e.g., JLG, scissor lift)
- Driver's license
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Word); experience with SAP, Sphera, Swift desirable
