Job Summary
Public Works Utility Maintenance Operator performs heavy equipment operation and water/sewer system maintenance. Responsibilities include operating trucks, backhoes, rollers, trenching equipment; repairing water service connections, lines, and meters; thawing frozen lines; maintaining tanks; coordinating main line shut-downs; reading meters; using Connect Software and SCADA for reporting; maintaining chlorine levels; supervising or training subordinates on safety practices; performing line cleaning, sewer maintenance, and diverse field repairs; and complying with certification requirements (Water Distribution, Utah CDL, and Flagger). Requires high school diploma and two years of related experience or equivalent, plus certifications within specified timelines. On-call and 24-hour standby are required.
Required Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; AND Two (2) years of general work experience performing above or related duties; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Some knowledge of operating basic manual and power tools; the standard practices, methods, materials and tools necessary for pipe line construction and repair activities; pipe fitting procedures, pipe classifications and type; hazards common to heavy equipment operation; drain system construction methods etc.; interpersonal communication skills.
- Special Qualifications: Obtain a Water Distribution Certification within twelve (12) months.; Must possess a valid Utah State Class A CDL.; Must be willing to work shift schedules, be on call, and be on 24-hour standby.; Must obtain Flagger Traffic Control Certification.
