Job Summary
Identify and map the location and depth of utilities such as water, sewer, gas, cable, oil, electric, and fiber optic lines to protect them during excavation. Assist in placing OSP facilities including aerial, bury, and underground components while documenting detailed site information and work performed. Translate design prints, locate tickets, and permits, and complete stand-by, meet, emergency, and on-call locates quickly and professionally. Communicate with foremen and crews using the Uniform Color Code and brightly colored pennants. Requires a valid DOT Medical Card, in-depth knowledge of OSHA and FMCSA guidelines, and excellent physical stamina. Proven experience as a utility construction Utility Locator is essential.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a utility construction Utility Locator
- Valid DOT Medical Card to operate a commercial vehicle (10,000 lbs. or under)
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, OSHA, and FMCSA/DOT guidelines
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to communicate and report effectively
- Problem solving abilities
- Good physical condition and stamina
- Must possess knowledge of underground utility locating equipment
- Must be comfortable with and available for travel
- Must exercise considerable self-initiation to complete the work
Desired Qualifications
- Personal computer (PC) experience
- Experience using electronic locating devices
