Job Summary
Locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets. Use utility maps, as-built civil engineering drawings, GIS data, and locating equipment. Mark locations with flags/paint, prepare reports and memos documenting work and any issues, take photos for each ticket, and investigate/document excavations affecting utilities. Comfortable with a cellphone app to record locating marks, participate in an on-call rotation, and travel as needed. Must pass a drug screen, possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain a DOT physical certification. Maintain equipment and vehicle cleanliness, interact professionally with the public, and work in all weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years locator experience
- valid Driver’s License
- ability to obtain a DOT physical certification
- ability to pass a drug screen
- willingness to travel (75%+)
- read and interpret utility maps and as-built civil engineering drawings
- locate underground utilities using multiple methods
- maintain cleanliness and good operating condition of equipment and vehicle
- ability to operate cell phone-based app to record locating marks and complete documentation
- excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- ability to interact with coworkers, supervisor, and public
- maintain small- to medium-sized equipment and trucks
