Job Summary
Conduct field surveys to locate and mark underground utilities using electromagnetic locators and ground-penetrating radar ahead of excavation activities. Interpret utility maps, as-builts, and construction plans to ensure accurate identification of underground lines while communicating with construction crews, contractors, and local authorities regarding locate requests and ticket queues. Maintain detailed records of survey results and comply with all safety protocols and industry regulations in outdoor environments involving varied terrain and weather conditions. Coordinate with the OSP Field Supervisor and Construction Manager to ensure workflow remains uninterrupted.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Must be able to pass DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements per 49 CFR Part 382 and/or 49 CFR Part 199
- Must be able to walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, bend, and navigate varied and uneven terrain throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed for field equipment
- Must be able to operate a company vehicle and drive between job sites daily
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in utility locating, underground construction, or a related field
- Certification in utility locating (e.g., NULCA, APWA, or equivalent) preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Familiarity with GIS technology and utility management systems a plus
- Experience working in construction or excavation environments preferred
- Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology preferred
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple locate tickets across active construction areas
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to following all applicable field safety protocols
